Summer School on Wine in Skopje/North Macedonia

From May 13-17,2024, the first "Summer School on Wine" takes place in Skopje, North Macedonia. It was organized within the regional expert advisory working group (REAWG) on wine of the Agricultural Policy Dialogue Germany – South East Europe (APD SEE).

The more than 30 course participants include viticulture students, young professionals and wine-growing entrepreneurs as well as government representatives from the project countries Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Moldova, who wish to learn more about wine marketing and tourism as well as the challenges of climate change in viticulture and oenology.

Members of the REAWG on wine, who themselves teach at renowned universities in the Western Balkans, as well as professors from Hochschule Geisenheim University, will provide them with the relevant specialist knowledge and the latest findings. The topics are then discussed together.

As a regional focus, the program explores the wine styles and history of the Western Balkans through practical experience. It includes discussions on local grape varieties and their adaptability to climate change. To demonstrate the taste potential of these innovative varieties, wines made from fungus-resistant grape varieties (Piwis), which were supplied to regional specialist institutions last year with the help of the APD, will also be tasted.

Participants can expect a varied agenda of lectures, discussions and excursions led by recognized wine-growing experts. This offers the opportunity to network with experts and wine enthusiasts from all over the world and to share knowledge and experiences.
